Megabass has brought in some exciting new products to its lineup for 2015. This year they have expanded their hardbait S-Crank baits by now offering a 2.0 size as well as a new, bigger, Grenade crankbait. They have also introduced a Eeler hardbait that will have some very interesting and unique applications.
Aside from baits, Megabass will also have a Levante rod series that is designed for the North American market. This is great news for Megabass fans and will really make their products much more accessible to anglers.
Megabass Levante Rod Series
The LEVANTE series of rods include 12 models, 2 spinning as well as 10 baitcasting models and are based on the XX line of rods. We got to look at the prototypes at ICAST 2015 and we were impressed. They were light and very well balanced. The retail on these rods has been pinned at $199 USD, so that makes Megabass rods accessible to a lot more anglers.
Blanks are made by Mitsubishi and the Levante rods boast all the quality and features you expect from Megabass. Our team is really looking forward to putting these rods to the test to find out how they compare. Our first impression was a good one!
Megabass S-Crank 2.0
With the popularity of the S-Crank 1.3 and 1.5 Megabass has expanded the lineup to include the 2.0. This bigger crank has all the features of the smaller models but now offers anglers the option to throw something just a little bigger. With the trend going bigger many anglers, such as Edwin Evers, will even choose the 2.0 as their go-to size forgoing the smaller models. The patented design generates an erratic hunting, wandering retrieve veering off-course before returning to the center. MSRP on ths S-Crank 2.0 is $22.99.
The Grenade is big. At 1 5/8-oz and a length of 3-3/4 inches it is a massive shallow crank with a super wide, hard hitting wobble. In addition to the wobbling side to side action, common to many shallow cranks, the Grenade also rolls and twists, moving huge quantities of water with its large body as it throws its tail wide left and wide right. The MSRP on the Grenade is $24.99.
Being such a big crankbait, the Grenade is definitely something that tournament anglers should consider for their arsenal. With the ability to stay shallow, the Grenade is a niche bait for shallow water lunkers.
The Eeler hardbait is another niche lure for anglers. At 9.25 inches long, the Eeler is a jointed crawler bait that combines the elements of traditional swimbaits and monster soft plastics. It is designed to have a smooth, undulating “S” action; the Eeler has a sashay that should appeal to bass. It is designed to work with heavy rods and line. The Eeler has an MSRP of $29.99.
The I-Jack is a wakebait by Yuki Ito. This is an interesting wakebait because it has a fixed weight inside that generates a knocking that is a specially tuned sound as well as a rolling action during the retrieve. The weight transfer system creates a lot of rolling action and the I-Jack pushes a lot of water due to its flat sides. The I-Jack features a RAB (Rudder Action Balance System) and was designed by the Ito Engineering design group: the same group that brought you the Vision Oneten, PopMax and I-Slide.
