The success of the BBZ-1 50 rat last year has prompted SPRO to expand the lineup for anglers in 2015. Now you can get the BBZ-1 rat in two new, smaller sizes that will definitely appeal to a wider range of anglers; the BBZ-1 30 “Rat Jr.” and BBZ-1 40 “Rat Baby”.
The BBZ-1 40 Rat Jr. is a segmented topwater bait, identical to the earlier model from last year, however it is now 4″ long and weighs 1-oz. The Rat Jr is equipped with #3 Gamakatsu treble hooks and still comes with a segmented replaceable tail. The BBZ-1 rat is available in 5 colors. MSRP for this one is going to be $25.99.
The BBZ-1 30 Rat Baby is 3.5″ long and weighs 1/2-oz. This lure is equipped with #6 Gamakatsu treble hooks and again, much like its bigger brothers, comes with a tail replacement. The BBZ-1 baby rat is available in 5 colors. MSRP for this one is going to be $21.99.

RATS! Bill Siemental shows off the complete lineup of SPRO BBZ-1 rats. Top to bottom: 50, 40, and 30 sizes shown.
We were excited about these new lures from SPRO because the 50 size rat is a great fish catcher, but sometimes conditions do call for smaller baits, or a more subtle approach. The 30 and 40 sizes offer this to anglers. This is also exciting because it opens the possibility for anglers who perhaps don’t have rods to throw a 3-oz. rat, the original 50 size. Now any angler can get into the BBZ-1 rat game!
