Tackle Grab Unboxing – June 2013
This summer’s weather in the Great Lakes region hasn’t been great weather-wise with lots of cold air and rain. Regardless, we have still managed to spend lots of quality time on the water, and new baits are always needed.
Here’s how this month’s Tackle Grab stacked up to their promise of a minimum $16 box value:
1 – Freedom Tackle 2-Pk of 1/2-oz. Stealth Hybrid Jigs – available at TackleWarehouse.com for US$8.49. This bait made a huge splash at ICAST 2012 and ever since everyone has been wanting to try them out. It’s awesome that it was included in this month’s box! With unique features such as interchangeable hooks and a brass rattle insert, this versatile jig is already part of my arsenal.
2 -Doctor Spinnerbait Classic – available at TackleWarehouse.com for CAD$8.99. I am already familiar with this innovative bait as well. This spinnerbait uses flexible wire instead of the traditional hard wire frame for its body, preventing thrown hooks and allowing you to vary your presentation. Spinnerbaits are great because you can slow roll them through cover as well as burn them. A great search bait in a useful color!
3 – Bass Kandi 2-pk of 3.5″ Croakers in Houndini – available on the Bass Kandi website for $4.99 for a 5-pk (prorated to $1.99 for a 2-pk). Looks like this bait is going to make a great soft frog. I’m not familiar with Bass Kandi, but it looks like the soft frogs feature a kicking action. It will be interesting to put this bait to the test, and compare it to other frogs in my arsenal, like the Gambler Lures Cane Toad.
4 – Lockett Lures Outlet 4-pk – available on the Lockett Lures Outlet website for $19.99 for a 25-pk (prorated to $3.20 for a 4-pk). This was the most interesting part of my box. These little stick baits reek of licorice and are in green pumpkin. These are going to be great rigged as a drop shot or even Texas-rigged on a slow day of fishing when you want to down- size your bait!
Total box value =US $22.67 + 150 Tackle Grab points (which can be redeemed for up to $10.50 off future orders from Tackle Grab) + 10% coupon code off a custom Aubut reel.
Stay tuned for our update on the July shipment (ETA – 4th week of July/1st week of August)!

Honestly haven’t tried licorice scented soft plastics yet! Going to have to give these Lockett’s a shot!
