Topwater Smallies on Lake Simcoeby Nuno Antunes December 8, 2012
I was pre-fishing to find some new spots for an upcoming club tournament. I decided to try top water first thing in the morning, as I usually do on other lakes, when calm waters allow for it. I have never tried it on Simcoe because the lake has real clear, deep water. The Simcoe smallies are usually hard to get going on top water. They had proven me wrong that day with a few of them coming up to slam the Bubble gum color Pop-R. The presentation was real slow with small pops and a real slow retrieve.
Next time you get out on Simcoe or other clear water lake don’t shy away from throwing a topwater lure, my recommendation would be to slow down the presentation.
